Business licence renewal in Denmark

Written from published rules on 27 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Erhvervsstyrelsen (Danish Business Authority).

In Denmark, business registration is managed through the Central Business Register (CVR). Maintaining an active business license involves ensuring company information is current and that annual reporting obligations are fulfilled through the Erhvervsstyrelsen portal.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to review company filings at least 30 days before statutory deadlines. Some administrative updates may require several weeks to process depending on current workload at the Danish Business Authority.

Start 30 days ahead

Allows for processing of data verification and ensures compliance with mandatory annual reporting cycles.

The process

  1. 1Log in to the Virk.dk portal using a company MitID or relevant digital signature.
  2. 2Navigate to the business dashboard to review current registration details and status.
  3. 3Select the relevant change or renewal form based on the specific business entity type (e.g., ApS, A/S, or Sole Proprietorship).
  4. 4Submit required updates regarding contact information, board members, or auditor status if applicable.
  5. 5Verify that the annual accounts have been submitted, as this is often a prerequisite for maintaining a valid registration status.

What to bring

  • Company MitID or NemLog-in
  • Updated annual financial reports
  • Documentation of any structural changes to the company (if applicable)
  • Proof of identity for authorized signatories

Most administrative changes via the online portal are free of charge, though certain registrations or late filings may incur a fee as determined by the Danish Business Authority.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure that the annual report is filed on time, as late filing can lead to forced dissolution of the business.
  • Verify that the digital mailbox on Virk.dk is monitored, as official communication from the authority is sent exclusively to this channel.
  • Ensure that the NemKonto associated with the business is active to receive any official correspondence or refunds.
