Driving licence renewal in Cyprus

How to renew a driving licence — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 2 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Τμήμα Οδικών Μεταφορών (Department of Road Transport).

Renewing a Cypriot driving licence involves submitting an application at a Department of Transport office or via the Citizens' Service Centres. Applicants must provide valid identification, photos, and ensure their medical fitness requirements are met.

Your timing

It is generally advised to begin the renewal process at least one month before the expiry date. This allows for sufficient time to process paperwork, schedule any required medical examinations, and account for potential delays in administrative appointments.

Start 30 days ahead

Processing times can vary based on local office volume and whether additional documentation is required for health-related fitness.

The process

  1. 1Verify the expiry date of the current driving licence.
  2. 2Obtain the necessary application form (TOM 7) from a Department of Road Transport office or the official website.
  3. 3Prepare the required identification documents and current passport-sized photographs.
  4. 4Undergo a medical examination if required due to age or specific health conditions.
  5. 5Submit the application and relevant fees in person at a District Office of the Department of Road Transport or a Citizens' Service Centre.
  6. 6Collect the new licence in person or wait for it to be processed as instructed by the issuing office.

What to bring

  • Current driving licence
  • Application form (TOM 7)
  • Valid identification (Passport or national ID card)
  • Recent passport-sized photographs
  • Medical certificate (if applicable)

Fees are subject to change and should be confirmed at the time of application via the Department of Road Transport's fee schedule.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure photographs strictly meet official specifications to avoid rejection.
  • Check if a medical examination is mandatory for the specific renewal category or age bracket.
  • Ensure the current licence is valid at the time of renewal, as late renewals may involve additional administrative procedures.
