Work permit renewal in Armenia

Written from published rules on 27 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Միգրացիայի և քաղաքացիության ծառայություն (Migration and Citizenship Service). Rules here vary, so check carefully.

Renewing a work permit in Armenia involves applying through the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The process requires documentation from the employer confirming continued employment and the submission of a formal renewal request before the current permit expires.

Your timing

Applicants are generally advised to begin the renewal process at least 30 days before the current permit expires to account for administrative processing times and to avoid unauthorized residence or work gaps.

Start 30 days ahead

Early application is recommended to ensure the employer-sponsored paperwork is verified and the new permit is processed within the legal validity period of the current documents.

The process

  1. 1Verify the employment contract extension with the employer.
  2. 2Obtain necessary documentation from the employer confirming the ongoing need for the foreign specialist.
  3. 3Complete the official application form for the extension of the work permit.
  4. 4Submit the application and required supporting documents to the Migration and Citizenship Service.
  5. 5Pay the applicable state duty fee.
  6. 6Collect the renewed work permit once notice of approval is received.

The state duty varies based on the duration of the permit renewal; the current fee schedule should be confirmed directly via the official government portal or local service center.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure the employer holds the necessary authorizations to hire foreign nationals, as these can be subject to periodic review.
  • Check for any changes in residence status requirements that may accompany the work permit renewal.
  • Verify that all submitted documents are translated into Armenian and notarized if they were issued abroad.
