Motor insurance renewal in Armenia

How to renew motor insurance — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 3 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Հայաստանի ավտոապահովագրողների բյուրո (Bureau of Motor Insurers of Armenia).

Renewing motor insurance in Armenia involves selecting an authorized insurance provider or utilizing an online platform to issue a new policy before the current one expires. The process typically requires verifying vehicle and owner details to ensure continuous coverage as mandated by national law.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to begin the renewal process at least 7 to 14 days before the current policy's expiration date. This allows sufficient time to compare premiums, address any data discrepancies with the insurance company, and ensure the new policy is registered in the national system without a gap in coverage.

Start 14 days ahead

Early renewal ensures the policy is fully processed and updated in the centralized electronic database used by traffic police.

The process

  1. 1Verify the expiration date of the current compulsory motor third-party liability (MTPL) insurance policy.
  2. 2Contact an authorized insurance company or use an approved online portal to request a renewal quote.
  3. 3Provide the vehicle registration document and the owner's identification details for verification.
  4. 4Pay the calculated insurance premium, which is determined by factors such as vehicle type, engine power, and the driver's bonus-malus status.
  5. 5Confirm that the new policy has been activated and is visible in the official centralized registry.

What to bring

  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Owner's passport or identification card
  • Driver's license
  • Details of the expiring insurance policy

Insurance premiums vary based on vehicle characteristics and the driver's history; current rates should be confirmed directly via the official Bureau of Motor Insurers portal or a licensed insurance agent.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure that no gap in coverage occurs, as operating a vehicle without valid insurance can lead to administrative fines.
  • Check that personal and vehicle information is entered exactly as it appears in official government registries to avoid registration errors.
  • Verify that the chosen insurance company remains licensed and authorized by the Bureau of Motor Insurers.
