Passport renewal in Armenia

Written from published rules on 28 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with ՀՀ ՆԳՆ միգրացիայի և քաղաքացիության ծառայություն (Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia).

Renewing an Armenian passport involves submitting an application to the relevant migration services or consular department. Applicants typically need to provide existing identification and biometric data to receive a new passport booklet.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to initiate the renewal process at least 3 to 6 months before the current passport expires. This allows sufficient time to account for administrative processing periods and potential delays in scheduling appointments.

Start 90 days ahead

Standard processing times can fluctuate depending on whether the application is filed domestically or at a diplomatic mission abroad, and whether expedited services are requested.

The process

  1. 1Verify the specific requirements for renewal based on current residency status.
  2. 2Schedule an appointment with the nearest local Passport and Visa Division office or Armenian diplomatic mission abroad.
  3. 3Complete the official application form provided by the authority.
  4. 4Submit the required documentation and have biometric data, such as fingerprints and a digital photograph, captured at the office.
  5. 5Pay the applicable state duty fee at a bank or through the authorized electronic payment system.
  6. 6Collect the new passport once the authority notifies that processing is complete.

The state duty fee varies based on the type of passport and processing speed; applicants should confirm the current tariff via the official government portal or local office.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure that personal data provided on the application form matches exactly what is recorded in existing civil registry documents.
  • Verify if additional documentation is required if there has been a recent change in personal information, such as a name change.
  • Confirm whether the specific office requires a prior appointment booking, as walk-in services may not be available.
