Renewing health insurance in Taiwan typically involves ensuring continuous enrollment with the National Health Insurance (NHI) system, which is generally automatic for eligible residents through their employer, school, or local district office. The NHI card itself can be re-issued if lost or damaged.

Your timing

It is advisable for individuals to confirm their enrollment status and ensure premium payments are up to date, especially if there are changes in employment, residency, or student status. While enrollment is often automatic, proactive checks can prevent potential interruptions in coverage or access to services.

Start 7 days ahead

This lead time applies if a new NHI card needs to be issued, allowing for processing and mailing. Continuous enrollment generally does not require a lead time, as it is ongoing.

The process
