Driving licence renewal in Singapore

Written from published rules on 27 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Singapore Police Force (SPF).

Renewing a Singaporean driving licence typically involves applying online through the Singapore Police Force (SPF) e-service. Most renewals are straightforward for individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, including medical fitness.

Your timing

It is generally advisable to initiate the renewal process a few weeks before the expiry date. While online renewals are usually quick, it allows time for any potential issues with the application, document submission, or postal delivery of the new licence card.

Start 21 days ahead

This duration accounts for potential processing time for online applications and postal delivery of the new physical licence card. Some applications may be processed faster.

The process

  1. 1Verify eligibility for renewal, especially concerning any medical conditions or outstanding driving-related issues.
  2. 2For individuals aged 65 and above, obtain a medical examination report from a registered medical practitioner.
  3. 3Access the SPF e-service portal for driving licence renewal.
  4. 4Complete the online application form, providing necessary personal details and declarations.
  5. 5Pay the applicable renewal fee online using a credit/debit card or other accepted payment methods.
  6. 6Await the delivery of the renewed driving licence card to the registered address.

What to bring

  • NRIC (for Singapore citizens and permanent residents) or valid passport/FIN (for foreigners)
  • Digital photograph (meeting specified requirements, typically 35mm x 45mm, white background, matte/semi-matte finish)
  • Valid email address and Singapore mobile number
  • Medical examination report (for drivers aged 65 and above)

Who handles it

Singapore Police Force (SPF)

The fee for driving licence renewal is generally SGD 25. This information is typically available on the SPF e-service portal during the application process.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure the digital photograph meets all specified requirements to avoid rejection of the application.
  • Drivers aged 65 and above must submit a valid medical report. The licence will not be renewed without it.
  • Any outstanding traffic fines or suspensions may need to be resolved before a licence can be renewed.
  • Verify the mailing address on record to ensure the new licence card is delivered correctly.
