Passport renewal in Qatar

Written from published rules on 27 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Ministry of Interior (وزارة الداخلية).

Renewing a Qatari passport generally involves submitting an application and required documents to the Ministry of Interior, either online or in person. The process includes verifying identity and submitting biometric data if necessary.

Your timing

It is advisable for individuals to begin the passport renewal process several months before their current passport expires. This allows ample time for application processing and any potential delays, especially considering appointment availability at service centers or the time required for mail-in applications for those outside Qatar.

Start 60 days ahead

This lead time accounts for potential processing times and any necessary appointments, minimizing the risk of having an expired passport when travel is required.

The process

  1. 1Verify the current passport's expiry date and determine if renewal is necessary.
  2. 2Gather all required documents, such as the current passport, Qatari ID card, and any other supporting papers.
  3. 3If applying online, access the Ministry of Interior's e-services portal or the Hukoomi portal. Complete the application form electronically and upload scanned copies of the required documents.
  4. 4If applying in person, visit a designated Ministry of Interior service center or a Qatari embassy/consulate if residing abroad. Present the completed application form and original documents.
  5. 5Pay the applicable renewal fees as instructed by the system or the service agent.
  6. 6Receive notification regarding the status of the application. If approved, collect the new passport from the designated service center or by mail, depending on the application method and location.

What to bring

  • Original current Qatari passport
  • Original Qatari ID card (for citizens residing in Qatar)
  • Passport-sized photographs (specifications to be confirmed with the authority)
  • Fingerprints (for applicants aged 18 and above, if required)
  • Proof of guardianship or parental consent for minors (if applicable)

Fees for passport renewal are subject to change and should be confirmed directly with the Ministry of Interior or through the official e-services portal. For example, some sources indicate a fee of QAR 100 for a 5-year passport and QAR 200 for a 10-year passport for adults, and QAR 100 for a 5-year passport for minors, but these are for reference and require official confirmation.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure all submitted documents are valid and match the information on file with the Ministry of Interior to avoid processing delays.
  • For online applications, verify the accuracy of all entered data and the clarity of uploaded document scans.
  • Be aware of specific photo requirements, such as background color, dimensions, and facial expression, as incorrect photos are a common reason for application rejection.
  • If applying from outside Qatar, confirm the specific procedures and required documents with the nearest Qatari embassy or consulate, as these may differ slightly.
