Vehicle inspection renewal in Qatar

How to renew a vehicle inspection — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 1 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Ministry of Interior - Traffic Department (وزارة الداخلية - الإدارة العامة للمرور).

Renewing a vehicle inspection in Qatar involves passing a technical check conducted at authorized testing centers to ensure the vehicle meets safety and environmental standards. Once the inspection is passed, the vehicle registration (Istimara) can be renewed through official government digital platforms.

Your timing

It is standard practice to begin the inspection process at least a few weeks before the registration expiration date. This allows sufficient time to address any mechanical repairs if the vehicle fails the initial inspection, ensuring the registration can be renewed without a lapse in coverage.

Start 21 days ahead

Early completion avoids potential fines for expired registration and allows time for repairs if required.

The process

  1. 1Ensure the vehicle is clean and in good mechanical condition.
  2. 2Visit an authorized Fahes (Qatar Vehicle Inspection) testing center.
  3. 3Submit the vehicle for the technical inspection process.
  4. 4Obtain the inspection report; if passed, the data is automatically linked to the Ministry of Interior system.
  5. 5Log in to the Metrash2 app or the Ministry of Interior portal to complete the vehicle registration (Istimara) renewal.
  6. 6Pay the applicable renewal fees electronically.

What to bring

  • Vehicle registration card (Istimara)

Fees vary based on the vehicle type and the specific inspection required; it is recommended to confirm current pricing directly at the Fahes inspection center or via the Ministry of Interior official portal.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure your vehicle insurance is valid, as it is a prerequisite for registration renewal.
  • Fines may be issued for operating a vehicle that has not passed its mandatory inspection.
  • Modifications to the vehicle that do not comply with safety standards can lead to an inspection failure.
