Renewing a vehicle inspection in Mauritius involves booking an appointment at an authorised vehicle examination station, ensuring the vehicle meets safety and environmental standards, and submitting the necessary documents.

Your timing

It is generally advisable to initiate the renewal process several weeks before the current inspection certificate expires. This allows ample time to book an appointment at a vehicle examination station, address any potential issues identified during the inspection, and account for processing times. Appointments for inspections can sometimes have lead times.

This accounts for potential waiting times for inspection appointments and time to rectify any defects found.

The process

  1. 1Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and meets all safety and emission standards set by the NTA.
  2. 2Book an appointment for a vehicle inspection at an NTA-approved Vehicle Examination Station (VES). This can often be done online or by phone.
  3. 3Attend the inspection appointment with the vehicle and all required documents.
  4. 4If the vehicle passes the inspection, a new fitness certificate will be issued.
  5. 5If the vehicle fails, address the identified defects and re-schedule a re-inspection.
