Vehicle inspection renewal in Fiji

How to renew a vehicle inspection — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 1 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Land Transport Authority (LTA) / Mataveilevu ni Vakarautaki ni Veimataqali Motoka.

Renewing a vehicle inspection in Fiji involves bringing the vehicle to an approved testing center for a mandatory roadworthiness assessment. Once the vehicle passes inspection, a certificate is issued which must be presented to renew the vehicle registration.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to initiate the inspection process at least two weeks before the current registration or inspection certificate expires. This accounts for potential wait times at testing stations and allows time for any necessary mechanical repairs should the vehicle fail the initial assessment.

Start 14 days ahead

Provides a buffer for mechanical repairs and appointment scheduling at inspection bays.

The process

  1. 1Ensure the vehicle is in a safe, roadworthy condition according to LTA safety standards.
  2. 2Locate an authorized LTA inspection center or visit an LTA office that provides inspection services.
  3. 3Present the vehicle for physical inspection by an authorized officer.
  4. 4Pay the applicable inspection fee at the LTA cashier or authorized collection point.
  5. 5Receive the Certificate of Inspection (COI) if the vehicle passes, or a defect report if repairs are required.

What to bring

  • Current LTA vehicle registration document
  • Valid identification (e.g., Driver's License or ID card)
  • Payment for the inspection fee
  • Previous inspection report (if applicable)

Who handles it

Fees are set by the Land Transport Authority and vary depending on the vehicle class; these should be confirmed directly via the official LTA fee schedule.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Failing to address minor mechanical issues, such as faulty lights or worn tires, before the inspection.
  • Allowing the vehicle registration to expire before completing the inspection process.
  • Neglecting to bring the original registration paperwork to the inspection site.
