Residence permit renewal in China
How to renew a residence permit — how it works anywhere
Renewing a residence permit in China involves submitting an application to the local exit-entry administration of the public security bureau. Applicants must demonstrate that their purpose for residence remains valid and provide supporting documentation related to their work, study, or family status.
It is standard practice to submit renewal applications at least 30 days before the current permit expires. This allows sufficient time for processing and accounts for potential administrative delays or requests for supplementary documentation.
Start 30 days ahead
Processing times generally take up to 7-15 working days once the application is accepted; applying well in advance avoids issues with legal stay status.
