This is the standard processing time for issuing a new driving licence. An expedited process within two working days may be available for a higher administrative fee.

The process

1. 1Verify the expiration date of the current driving licence.
2. 2Schedule an appointment at a relevant district police department (Okresné riaditeľstvo Policajného zboru), if the department offers an appointment system. Otherwise, visit during office hours.
3. 3Submit the application for renewal at the police department. This typically involves providing the required documents and submitting to a digital photograph being taken on site.
4. 4Pay the administrative fee for the new driving licence.
5. 5Receive notification (if applicable) or check the status of the new driving licence, and collect it from the same police department where the application was submitted once it is ready.

What to bring

• Valid identity document (e.g., občiansky preukaz - Slovak ID card or passport)
• Current Slovak driving licence
• Medical fitness report (lekársky posudok o zdravotnej spôsobilosti) if the driving licence is for group C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE or if the holder is over 65 years of age. For other categories, it may be required if there are health issues.
• Proof of payment of the administrative fee (if not paid directly at the counter).
