Driving licence renewal in Namibia

Written from published rules on 26 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Roads Authority (RA) / NaTIS (Namibian Traffic Information System).

Renewing a Namibian driving licence typically involves applying at a NaTIS (Roads Authority) office. The process generally requires an application form, identification, and the existing licence, and may include an eye test.

Your timing

It is advisable to begin the renewal process several weeks before the expiry date of the current licence. This allows ample time to gather all necessary documents, complete any required tests, and account for potential waiting times at NaTIS offices or processing delays.

Start 30 days ahead

To accommodate potential appointment scheduling, processing times, and travel to a NaTIS office.

The process

  1. 1Locate the nearest NaTIS office or register for an account on the NaTIS online portal if renewing online is an option in the specific region.
  2. 2Obtain and complete the 'Application for a Driving Licence' form, often available at NaTIS offices or for download from the official Roads Authority website.
  3. 3Gather all required supporting documents, such as the current driving licence and identification.
  4. 4Undergo an eye test, which may be conducted at the NaTIS office or by an authorized optometrist, with the results submitted during the application.
  5. 5Submit the completed application form and all supporting documents at the NaTIS office, or through the online portal if available.
  6. 6Pay the prescribed renewal fee.

The fee for a driving licence renewal is subject to change and should be confirmed directly with the Roads Authority or at a NaTIS office prior to application. It is typically a fixed amount payable at the time of submission.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure all documents are original or certified copies as required; uncertified copies may be rejected.
  • Check the validity period of the renewed licence, as it may vary based on age or other factors.
  • Confirm office hours and any specific booking requirements for NaTIS centres before visiting, especially for eye tests.
  • Verify the accepted payment methods at the specific NaTIS office.
