National ID card renewal in Kazakhstan

Written from published rules on 26 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Министерство внутренних дел Республики Казахстан (Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan), executed through Государственная корпорация 'Правительство для граждан' (Government for Citizens State Corporation, often referred to as PSC or ЦОН)..

Renewing a national ID card in Kazakhstan typically involves applying to a Public Service Center (PSC) with necessary documents and paying a state fee. The process aims to replace an expiring or damaged document.

Your timing

It is generally advisable to initiate the ID card renewal process at least a few weeks before the current card's expiration date. This allows for sufficient time to gather required documents, visit a Public Service Center, and account for processing times, which can vary.

Start 15 days ahead

The standard processing time for issuing a new ID card is typically 15 working days. Expedited services may be available for an additional fee, reducing the processing time to 1 or 3 working days depending on the region.

The process

  1. 1Gather the necessary documents, including the expiring or damaged ID card and proof of payment for the state fee.
  2. 2Visit a Public Service Center (PSC/ЦОН) in person.
  3. 3Submit the application and required documents to the operator.
  4. 4Have digital fingerprints taken and a digital photo captured at the PSC.
  5. 5Receive a notification when the new ID card is ready for collection.
  6. 6Collect the new national ID card from the PSC, presenting a receipt or old ID for identification.

What to bring

  • Expiring or damaged national ID card (for replacement)
  • Receipt confirming payment of the state fee

Who handles it

The state fee for issuing a national ID card is typically 0.2 Monthly Calculation Index (MCI). The exact amount in Kazakhstani Tenge (KZT) should be confirmed with the Public Service Center or on the eGov.kz portal, as the MCI value is updated annually.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure all necessary documents are prepared before visiting the PSC to avoid multiple trips.
  • Be aware of the processing times, especially if expedited service is not chosen or available.
  • Confirm the current state fee based on the current Monthly Calculation Index (MCI) before making payment.
  • Check the validity period of the new ID card upon collection to ensure all details are correct.
