Vehicle inspection renewal in Dominican Republic

How to renew a vehicle inspection — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 2 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Instituto Nacional de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (INTRANT). Rules here vary, so check carefully.

Renewing a vehicle inspection in the Dominican Republic, known as the 'Revete Técnico Vehicular,' involves presenting the vehicle at an authorized inspection center to verify safety and emissions compliance. Once passed, the vehicle receives an updated inspection sticker or certification record.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to initiate the renewal process at least 30 days before the current inspection sticker expires. This allows sufficient time to address any mechanical failures discovered during the inspection and to account for potential wait times at testing stations.

Start 30 days ahead

Provides a buffer to perform necessary repairs if the vehicle does not pass the initial inspection on the first attempt.

The process

  1. 1Verify the vehicle's registration status to ensure all local taxes are up to date.
  2. 2Locate an authorized 'Centro de Inspección Técnica Vehicular' approved by INTRANT.
  3. 3Schedule an appointment if required by the specific inspection center.
  4. 4Present the vehicle at the facility for mechanical, electrical, and emissions testing.
  5. 5Receive the inspection report and, upon passing, obtain the updated certification or sticker.

What to bring

  • Valid vehicle registration (Matrícula)
  • Proof of identity (Cédula de Identidad y Electoral or passport)
  • Payment receipt for the inspection service
  • Insurance policy documents for the vehicle

Fees are subject to change and vary based on vehicle type; applicants should confirm the current tariff directly through the INTRANT website or authorized testing centers.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Failing the emissions test due to poor engine maintenance.
  • Incomplete documentation, particularly regarding proof of current vehicle insurance.
  • Safety equipment, such as lights, mirrors, and seatbelts, not being in functional condition.
  • Unpaid traffic fines which may prevent the issuance of the inspection certificate.
