Driving licence renewal in Côte d’Ivoire

How to renew a driving licence — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 2 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Ministère des Transports (Ministry of Transport). Rules here vary, so check carefully.

Renewing a driving licence in Côte d’Ivoire involves verifying current medical fitness and submitting an application through the national transportation agency. Applicants typically undergo a process to validate their identity and driving status before receiving a renewed permit.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to initiate the renewal process at least 30 to 60 days before the document expires to account for potential administrative processing delays or appointment availability at regional centers.

Start 45 days ahead

This timeframe allows for potential verification of records and the issuance of the new physical card.

The process

  1. 1Verify the current validity status of the existing licence through official government channels.
  2. 2Complete the official application form for licence renewal.
  3. 3Submit the required documentation and identification at an authorized transport authority office or via the official online platform, if available.
  4. 4Pay the applicable administrative fees.
  5. 5Collect the renewed licence upon notification that it is ready.

What to bring

  • Valid identity document (e.g., national ID card or passport)
  • The existing driving licence
  • Proof of payment of renewal fees
  • Medical fitness certificate from an approved practitioner, if required

Who handles it

The cost of renewal varies depending on the type of licence and applicable government taxes; verify current fee schedules directly through the Ministry of Transport or the official Sotra/transport portal.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure all personal details on the application match official records exactly.
  • Confirm the accreditation of the medical practitioner if a medical certificate is requested.
  • Keep copies of all payment receipts until the new licence is received.
