Passport renewal in St. Lucia

Written from published rules on 26 August 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Passport and Immigration Department (Saint Lucia), or Saint Lucian Embassies/High Commissions/Consulates abroad.

Renewing a Saint Lucian passport generally involves completing an application form, providing necessary identification and supporting documents, and submitting them to the Passport and Immigration Department or a diplomatic mission. The process aims to update your travel document before or shortly after its expiration.

Your timing

It is advisable for individuals to begin the passport renewal process several months before their current passport's expiration date. This allows ample time for processing, which can vary, and accounts for potential delays or the need to gather additional documentation. Some countries require passports to be valid for at least six months beyond the planned date of departure.

Start 60 days ahead

This lead time accounts for typical processing times by the Passport and Immigration Department, as well as potential delays in mail delivery or the scheduling of appointments at diplomatic missions, especially for overseas applicants.

The process

  1. 1Obtain the passport renewal application form from the Passport and Immigration Department's website or a Saint Lucian diplomatic mission.
  2. 2Complete the application form accurately, ensuring all sections are filled out.
  3. 3Gather all required supporting documents, which typically include the expiring passport, proof of citizenship, and photographs.
  4. 4Have the application form and photographs certified by an authorized recommender (e.g., Justice of the Peace, lawyer, notary public, medical practitioner).
  5. 5Submit the completed application, supporting documents, and fee to the Passport and Immigration Department in Saint Lucia or the nearest Saint Lucian diplomatic mission.
  6. 6Pay the applicable passport renewal fee.
  7. 7Collect the new passport once processing is complete, either in person or via mail, as arranged during submission.

Passport renewal fees vary based on the type of application (e.g., standard, express) and the location of submission (in Saint Lucia or through a diplomatic mission). Applicants should confirm the current fee schedule with the Passport and Immigration Department or the relevant diplomatic mission before applying.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure photographs meet strict ICAO standards for size, background, and facial expression; incorrectly sized or poor-quality photos are a common reason for rejection.
  • All required sections of the application form must be filled out completely and accurately, with particular attention to declarations and recommender sections.
  • Check the validity requirements of your destination country; many require passports to be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
  • If applying from abroad, confirm the specific requirements and payment methods of the relevant Embassy or High Commission, as these can sometimes differ from the domestic process.
