Vehicle inspection renewal in Guadeloupe

How to renew a vehicle inspection — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 2 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Direction de l'Environnement, de l'Aménagement et du Logement (DEAL Guadeloupe).

Renewing a vehicle inspection (Contrôle technique) in Guadeloupe involves scheduling an appointment with an authorized inspection center to verify the safety and environmental standards of the vehicle. Upon successful completion, the vehicle is issued a new inspection report and a proof of passage sticker.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to schedule an appointment at least 4 to 6 weeks before the current inspection certificate expires. This accounts for potential wait times at popular centers and ensures that if repairs are required, there is sufficient time to address them before the legal validity period ends.

Standard administrative buffer to accommodate scheduling availability and potential re-inspection requirements.

The process

  1. 1Identify an approved vehicle inspection center (centre de contrôle technique agréé) operating in Guadeloupe.
  2. 2Schedule an appointment, ensuring the vehicle's registration document (certificat d'immatriculation) is ready for reference.
  3. 3Present the vehicle and the original registration certificate at the chosen center on the date of the appointment.
  4. 4Undergo the inspection process, which covers various safety, steering, braking, and pollution control points.
  5. 5Receive the inspection report and, if the vehicle passes, the updated validation sticker for the license plate.
  6. 6If the vehicle fails, complete the required repairs and return to the same center for a follow-up inspection within the mandated timeframe.

What to bring

  • Original vehicle registration certificate (certificat d'immatriculation / carte grise)
  • Previous inspection report (if applicable)

Fees are not fixed by the government and vary by inspection center; confirm the current price directly with the selected facility.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Failing to present the original registration document, as centers cannot legally perform the inspection without it.
  • Neglecting to address 'critical' defects immediately, which may limit the vehicle's right to operate on public roads.
  • Missing the deadline for a follow-up inspection (contre-visite), which necessitates a full, new inspection process.
