Business licence renewal in Angola

How to renew a business licence — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 2 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Ministério da Indústria e Comércio (Ministry of Industry and Commerce) / Administração Municipal (Municipal Administration). Rules here vary, so check carefully.

Renewing a business licence in Angola involves verifying the status of the entity with the relevant commercial registry and tax authorities. Applicants must ensure their commercial registration is up to date and fulfill any outstanding tax obligations before submitting a renewal request to the licensing body.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to initiate the renewal process at least 30 to 60 days before the current licence expires. This accounts for potential administrative processing times at local municipal or ministerial offices and the time required to obtain updated tax clearance certificates.

Start 45 days ahead

Processing times vary significantly based on the specific municipality and the type of business activity being licensed.

The process

  1. 1Verify the current validity and registration details of the business through the Guiché Único da Empresa (GUE) or the local commercial registry.
  2. 2Obtain a current tax clearance certificate (Certidão de Quitação Fiscal) from the Administração Geral Tributária (AGT).
  3. 3Prepare the required renewal application documentation as specified by the issuing municipal or ministerial authority.
  4. 4Submit the application and proof of payment for any applicable renewal fees to the relevant issuing office.
  5. 5Collect the updated business licence or the electronic proof of renewal once processing is complete.

What to bring

  • Copy of the current business licence
  • Valid tax identification number (NIF)
  • Up-to-date tax clearance certificate (Certidão de Quitação Fiscal)
  • Commercial registry certificate (Certidão de Registo Comercial)
  • Proof of payment of applicable municipal or administrative fees

Who handles it

Ministério da Indústria e Comércio (Ministry of Industry and Commerce) / Administração Municipal (Municipal Administration)

Fees vary by municipality and business sector; applicants should confirm the current fee schedule with their local Municipal Administration office.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Ensure all tax returns have been filed with the AGT, as outstanding tax debt will prevent the renewal of a licence.
  • Check if changes to the business structure or ownership have occurred since the last issuance, as these may require an update to the commercial registry before the licence can be renewed.
  • Ensure the physical address of the business matches the address currently on file with the commercial registry.
