Vehicle inspection renewal in Gabon

How to renew a vehicle inspection — how it works anywhere

Written from published rules on 29 September 2026. Not monitored for changes since. A starting point, not official advice — confirm anything that matters with Ministère des Transports (Ministry of Transport). Rules here vary, so check carefully.

Vehicle inspection in Gabon involves presenting a motor vehicle to an authorized technical center to verify its safety and environmental compliance. Successful completion results in the issuance of a valid inspection certificate required for continued legal operation on public roads.

Your timing

It is generally recommended to initiate the inspection process at least two weeks before the current certificate expires. This allows time to address any potential mechanical issues identified during the test and avoids appointment backlogs at inspection centers.

Start 14 days ahead

Processing and repair times vary, and scheduling an appointment can depend on the current demand at the local inspection facility.

The process

  1. 1Verify the vehicle's registration status and ensure all taxes are current.
  2. 2Schedule an appointment with an authorized technical inspection center (Centre de visite technique).
  3. 3Present the vehicle at the center for a technical assessment of safety and exhaust emissions.
  4. 4Pay the prescribed inspection fees at the center.
  5. 5Receive the inspection report and, if the vehicle passes, the updated validation sticker or certificate.

What to bring

  • Vehicle registration document (Carte grise)
  • Proof of valid insurance
  • Previous inspection certificate (if applicable)
  • Identification of the owner or the person presenting the vehicle

Fees for technical inspections are set by government decree and vary based on the vehicle category; exact current costs should be confirmed directly at the official inspection center.

What commonly goes wrong

  • Failing to present the original vehicle registration document.
  • Mechanical defects that require repair and a subsequent re-inspection before a certificate is issued.
  • Attempting to inspect a vehicle that has lapsed insurance coverage.
  • Incomplete documentation regarding the vehicle's technical specifications.
